INSIDER Q & A.

W2C: What inspired you to launch götti SWITZERLAND Eyewear?
SG: When I started my career as an optometrist, creating my own eyewear brand was always one of the dreams I had. After launching my store and gaining a lot of experience, I felt that it was the right time to start an eyewear collection. I could not have anticipated the incredible journey that I would embark on when I entered the world of eyewear design.

W2C: What has been the biggest challenge with respect to creating your line?
SG: The first challenge was properly building an optical store from scratch. The next big challenge was, in addition to the day-to-day business as an optometrist, launching an entire eyewear collection (especially because I had no clue as to how to draw glasses or where to have them manufactured). Right now, I find it challenging to keep up with the various demands of our customers and to keep the collection, as well as the company with all its facets, up and running.

W2C: Where do you find inspiration for the amazing designs you create?
SG: Most of my inspiration comes from everyday life, but I also derive inspiration from exhibitions, art and furniture trade shows. For instance, when I see everyone at an event wearing black nerd glasses, I can’t help but wonder to myself, “What kind of glasses would a trendsetter need to wear right now in order to stand out from the masses?”

W2C: What is the most exciting project or collaboration that you have been a part of?
SG: For our 20th brand anniversary, we built a 3.5 meter long chandelier with the Swiss design studio, Bureau Purée. This showpiece consisted of 541 archived pairs of götti SWITZERLAND sunglasses. The Bureau Purée, based in Zurich, is not only an office, but also a workshop for lamps and exhibition design.

W2C: What is your favorite must-have style currently available on your site?
SG: The frame, PHIL, of the 93/13 Celebration Edition, celebrating the 20th anniversary of götti SWITZERLAND. This is the perfect eyewear style for avant-gardists. It travels elegantly with a modern saddle bridge and the classic, finely tooled details that götti has been known for since the very first collection.

W2C: When you are not working, what are some of your favorite things to do?
SG: Aside from being with my family, I enjoy sports, jogging, yoga and long walks with my dog. Being active gives me the right balance for my mind and body. And, of course, I enjoy visiting furniture and art expositions as often as I can.
