As The Brunette, NJ is internationally recognized as a fashion trendsetter and style icon, and is often referred to as the “Daphne Guinness of the West Coast.” For the past two seasons, NJ has also been a featured cast member on the #1 reality show in Belgium, Astrid In Wonderland. She has interviewed everyone from Alber Elbaz, Olivier Theyskens, Rachel Zoe, Derek Lam, Thakoon, the Missonis, Jason Wu and Giuseppe Zanotti to Milla Jovovich, Joy Bryant and Harley Pasternak. She regularly attends and covers events such as the Met Gala and the star-studded opening of the Valentino Boutique on Rodeo Drive, or can be found hosting Fashion’s Night Out for Lanvin, front row at runway shows from Lanvin and Prada to Monique Lhuillier, or sitting at her laptop at 1 a.m.

Although NJ’s first love is fashion, she is well-known in the creative community as a multiple Webby, Davey, Creativity and Communicator award-winner, as well as a member of the by-invitation-only International Academy of Visual Arts (IAVA), the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS) and The Metropolitan Museum’s Friends of The Costume Institute.


FACT: My favorite expression is, “I’m going to shop my closet.”
FACT: I tell everyone that NJ stands for New Jersey instead of Nancy Jane. I’m from Connecticut.
FACT: I’m very black and white with my wardrobe and am desperately trying to add color. It’s always a battle, and usually black wins.


W2C: What inspired you to start The Blonde & the Brunette®?
NJ: I’ve had a love affair with fashion and with Prada for most of my life. In the fall of 2010, these two passions intersected. I received a personal invitation from Prada and Mrs. Prada to attend, as their guest, the Fall Ready-To-Wear show in Milan (which actually showcased the famous spring “Banana” collection). It suddenly seemed the right time to pursue my dream of developing a fashion website based on the idea of being your quick daily dose of style and beauty; not with just one voice, but with many style voices or “agents.” We literally launched it days before the show, and slowly assembled our amazing team. We all took a huge risk and leap of faith. The economy was bottoming out and being fashionable or interested in fashion was basically something that you didn’t want to acknowledge. We decided that we wanted to share and celebrate our fashion and beauty obsessions together.

Our Webby Award-winning team consistently embraces the theme and dichotomy between The Blonde & The Brunette®. It isn’t meant to represent a singular focus, but varying styles, opinions and stylistic differences across all age groups. Most of all, it was, and we are today, about enjoying fashion and beauty. Embracing it. From the start, this resonated with our readers.

W2C: What is your favorite international fashion website to shop?
NJ: I still think Net-A-Porter and their sister brand, The OUTNET, are the best. I recently toured their world headquarters in London and this confirmed it. They consistently deliver the best online, customer-centric, shopping experience.

W2C: Who is your current favorite established or up-and-coming designer to shop?
NJ: I adore Markus Lupfer. He has this design sense of humor, and his one piece sweater dresses, with sequin accents, are one of my favorite go-to items of all time. Right now, I am wearing his colorful, sequined initial pins on everything, as well as giving them as gifts.

I also love Alexander Wang. He’s not new on the scene, but he just gets better and better. He pulls it all together from the day wear to the most amazing accessories.

W2C: Who is your favorite style icon and why?
NJ: It’s a toss-up. Of course it’s two brunettes: Audrey Hepburn and Jacqueline Kennedy. Both represent inner and outer beauty combined with an elegant and effortless style that is complimented by intelligence and grace under pressure.
